UPDATE – Match Report: St Boswells 1st XI vs Freuchie 2nd XI

*** UPDATE ***

Statement from ESCA web site with regards to player A Naeem:

The Competitions sub Committee, following investigation into complaints, have made the following decisions:

1 St Boswells v Freuchie 2 on Saturday 28 April. Match awarded to St Boswells 20 points to 0, due to Freuchie 2nd XI playing a player, without advance permission, who normally plays for a higher team. St Boswells did not make any complaint in this case.

2 Drummond Trinity 2 v Edinburgh 2. Match awarded to Drummond Trinity 2 by 20 points to 0 due to Edinburgh CC playing a player, without advance permission, from a higher team and for playing three players in both of their games on 5 and 6 May.

Both Freuchie CC and Edinburgh CC can appeal against these decisions.

On a potentially submarine wicket, made playable by the magic of the St Boswells ground staff, St Boswells were put into bat by an ominously strong-looking Freuchie 2nds, sporting at handful of first team players and a determination borne of experience in the East Leagues. St Boswells, for their part, took the field with their St Lucian overseas player, Cletus Mathurin partnering Elliot Ruthven in the openers spot. The experience of Freuchie soon told, following a promising opening partnership, and wickets started falling with alarming regularity, helped by some very accurate bowling in the form of young prodigy McMurdo and the rest of the Freuchie attack, and a slow, low wicket that caused the ball to barely reach knee-height throughout the day.

Only young Elliot managed a respectable score in the St Boswells innings, with a creditable 35 in as many overs, and while there was some resistance from captain Broom and Elliot Hunter the St Boswells team were skittled for 104 in just 44.3, sometimes rain-lashed, overs

After a delightful tea St Boswells took the field and threatened the opposition with equally accurate bowling from both ends. Mathurin quickly showed his class with an almost unplayable spell, matched in turn by Scott Turnbull and the rest of the seam attack, but it was new signing Prabhakar who made the greatest impression, with 3 LBWs that for a while threatened to cause a serious upset. Sadly 104 was never going to be a defendable total, and Freuchie overcame St Boswells with a handful of impressive sixes that showed what can be done on The Green whenever a loose ball comes your way.

The next match is away to Westquarter & Redding, in Falkirk.

Freuchie 2 won the toss and chose to field first.
